The San Francisco garter snake is probably the most beautiful snake found in the U.S. It has been on the endangered list since 1967, and scientists estimate only 1,000 to 2,000 remain.

If there's that few of these beautiful snakes remaining, we should get a serious captive breeding program going to help these snakes repopulate their natural range. These are just too beautiful to allow them to go extinct!!!

And save DNA samples so if worst comes to worst, they can be cloned in the future.

We really should be doing that for every species on the endangered list.

100% in agreement. We need to start saving germ cells of every species. The animal equivalent of the Svaldbard Seed Vault. We should be doing it for EVERY endangered species, not just these beautiful snakes!!!
