I've been absolutely fascinated by all the strange AI stories coming out now. And it's held, as a matter of fact, that they are just "autocorrect on steroids."
But why? I think that's awfully biocentric of us. Why should sentience- or consciousness - be rare, or hard to achieve?

In response to Mist Sandandgrass.
Perhaps it’s not, but my cat has provided excellent proof of sentience, yet still has few, if any, existential rights and the Chatbots are provably not conscious by those who can construct them, so it’s hard to justify the debate.
