While people with more money than they know what to do with go buy $250 million yachts, I'm forced to live in poverty to qualify for Medicaid because I need full-time caregivers. With $10 million of that yacht money, I could live comfortably on $200,000 a year for 50 years.

(I don’t expect to live that long since I’ve been a quadriplegic for 41 years already.) $80,000 of that would be paid to caregivers each year, I’d also pay 9,600 a year for my own platinum health insurance (which I could only qualify for because of the Affordable Care Act).

I’d also have to save about $10,000 a year to cover medical equipment and supplies that insurance decides not to pay for. My housing expenses would be about $24,000 a year (not including utilities), and then there would be any other living expenses we all pay for. It’s a lot when added up.

But I’d be able to live free without government assistance, and it’s a fraction of what that yacht costs. A person with a billion dollars could live on $200,000 a year for 5,000 years! I see people casually throw around the term billionaire without stopping to think about how huge that number is.

It’s really frustrating that there’s no way for me to better my position in life, because even if I tried, I’d be forced to pay everything over the poverty line towards my care. How do you go from earning $0 to earning $200K a year when you aren’t allowed to invest or own any assets?

In response to Quasar.
There is no such thing as a good billionaire. Having that much money, while others struggle to survive, is a sin.
