Because it's important that people who voted for him but aren't full-blown cultists see the evidence of what he did.

Agree Frank. The J6 committee was a very positive thing. The R base, independents and moderates must see the prosecutions of all the Rs in the this case. Not just t(R)ump.

Sadly, I doubt a lot of them, having been told not to believe what they see and hear for so long now, will believe it even if televised. They always find a way to justify/rationalize whatever he's accused of.

Oh, there are definitely people who will justify anything he does, but there is evidence that some on the margins are souring on him, those are the people we want to reach.

Sexual predator Donald and his co-conspirators are able to lie without consequence to said voters; they won’t be able to lie without consequence in court!

He's ratings crack for the networks so they'll show only the part of the trial that they think will bring them, and by extension him, the best ratings. The only way to get all the evidence to the people will be to televise it. Jack Smith knows what he's doing and it will outshine TFG's antics.

I don't disagree about Smith. If it was televised, it would need to be on a stream in full, not just filtered by networks.
