This is a trend that needs to be reversed. Black students are too intelligent to not go into the STEM fields. Parents, grandparents, cousins, and friends, please back STEM fields.

I think it's at least partly on the existing STEM community to be honest about how it can be so hostile to not-a-middle class-white-guys. Rather than acting like ppl just "leak out of the pipeline" with a shrug (and a bunch of "solutions" that address what white guys think is happening)

HBCUs have always produced the largest % of STEM graduates. To take advantage of this, more direct internships and partnerships with HBCU STEM programs is needed by corporations so that Black students have direct lines to jobs after graduating.

This is why those of us in the position to make hiring/recruiting/mentorship decisions need to work with HBCUs and Black professional organizations to foster young Black scholars into school and beyond
