But that requires WORK. It requires an unpleasant amount of politicking. And that is something the third-party voter doesn't want. They want to remain divorced from politics because they don't like it. It's easier to find an "outsider" to throw their vote away on.

Exactly. It's easier to vote 3rd party or pick unelectable problematic candidates then come back and yell about "centrist" "establishment" when that candidate loses, etc, than it is to do work that actually leads to progress.
