THIS!!! I hate wide swathes of purely ornamental turf. Use native grasses and plants. Use OT as *accent*, at most. And end the stigma against wild flora. Weeds are defined by place, not DNA.

Or even just let it BE grass, weeds and all, and grow, flower, and seed. That is the easiest and cheapest way to make ecologically dead turf into an ecosystem

Now that is a whole different battle that I feel you on. I ended up running for our condo HOA because I got a coalition together who wanted to go LED, xeriscape, and get recycling. I won and have been slogging through those fights for about 3 terms now. One more bit of landscaping to fight about...

What we do is have a common lands area, with trails, admittedly it's work on the trails, works well in WUI, gives the HOA a perk and lets you go all native.
