My dad was a man of his time. He did not understand my OCD. He thought I was just being obstinate/oppositional defiant. He responded with violence - non verbal, verbal, physical. As I grew and my physical strength and corresponding athletic violence grew, he seemed more challenged. Good times.

I’m sorry that you had to live through that.
You deserved better. I hope you have healed some and found acceptance from others who love you. Hugs to you.

Thank you. Different times and he was of his times and had his own demons to fight. It was just confusing and I felt like my brain was broken - an inadvertent fuck up. Actually, still feel that way but such is the power of self talk. OCD played a role in my achievements as well so all good.

You’re welcome. Childhood was a rough time for lots of us. I was the joyless recipient of my dad’s demons, too. So at 16, I found a way to graduate HS, start college and move out. Was I motivated to hurry up and get on with my life, cause anywhere else HAD to be better? You bet. We’re survivors .
