7 or so years go, we thought in the context of Orwell, of Sinclair Lewis and Budd Schulberg. "A Face in the Crowd" was, for me, the most prescient... until it wasn't. There is a point in the story when the people finally turn away from Lonesome Rhodes. The moral arc. doesn't happen in real life.
