My ADHD obsession today is a 1960 Cessna 172A. Could it possibly make sense for me to buy a 63-year-old airplane?

(And by "buy," I mean, of course, ask the bank to buy the plane and let me use it while I pay them interest. :)

Had a 1976 C172M, easy to maintain and a solid performer.

I trained on a 1977 with a 160hp Lycoming I like a lot. (I still rent it occasionally.) That 1960 version has the 145hp 0-300 so I wonder a little what I would think of that. It’s sharp with that fastback though. ;)

Is that the 6 cylinder? If so, that would be my only concern. Adding additional cost with two more cylinders to worry about. But if the engine is fresh off overhaul then not so much.

Yes, six cylinders. Every time I review one of those old 0-300 log entries, I think the same. ;)

That said, fans of the 0-300 talk about how smooth the six cylinder is. I hope to find out at some point!
