This is not an opening line to a joke. I'm old enough to know people who had polio. I talked to a girl I knew from my first-grade class while she was in an iron lung.
I'm old enough to remember worrying about getting it myself.

I know that's right. My mom had the polio vaccine. By the time she had us, it had been virtually eradicated. Vaccines are miracles and that squatter who occupied our White House turned them into a divisive political issue.

Right?! Some of it is in relatively recent history. I'm 40 and had chicken pox when I was a kid. I had the first meningitis vaccine in my late teens (in early university if I recall correctly).

I got the yellow fever vaccine as an adult for travel, but we don't normally need it.
