Wow, I never knew this (although it's hardly surprising – SO much of our language, law, and culture is based on upholding white supremacy...). Yeah, we should get rid of the phrase altogether.

Yes. I am on a mission to remove the word "denigrate" from common vocab. While Latin in origin (lit. to make something black as in color), it attained its current meaning "to demean/degrade" at the height of transatlantic slave trade. By using it today, we reify "blackness" as a sign of degradation.

my city has vigorous grandfather clauses for nearly everything. including all ADA laws.
no existing building is required to adhere to any ADA laws, including access ramps, access doorways, when owners pass on property to new owners, they do not have to comply with any ADA laws.
