Every state should have a curriculum of how Indigenous people, slaves and immigrants helped shape it.

New England was forged by Indigenous people, Portuguese, French Canadians, English, Cape Verdins, Black slaves and Free men, Italians and Irish.
Tell their stories.

Agree and include K-12 curriculums written by BBIMP+ that teachers can access.
NM has K-12 The Indigenous Wisdom curriculum project.
WA state has the Since Time Immemorial K-12 curriculum.
Is happening - just not much awareness yet.

Irish, French Canadian & Azorean Portuguese. They all immigrated to my hometown, Fall River, for factory work.
Found out in my 30s that my dad's grandfather divorced his English Protestant wife to marry an Irish Catholic-my grandpa's mom. Promptly disowned. They were colonists, so didn't miss out.

Reminds me of my Italian grandma complaining ”they are all going over to the Irish”. Sorry, Nana, some of us, a lot of us, were swayed by blue eyes and freckles.

Great scholarship that needs to be a part of Rhode Island's curriculum is Dark Work: The Business of Slavery in Rhode Island by Dr. Christy Clark-Pujara. It would also serve as a great template for other states.
