We won’t need it to be a holiday if we had early and mail voting. Only government workers get all national holidays and making election days a holiday doesn’t solve anything.

At the very least, your elections should be on a Saturday and employers must be REQUIRED to give employees time off to vote.

(What you actually need is compulsory voting, like Australia - but I realise that’s a bridge too far for many Americans, for some reason 🙄)

Never. It will be like every other holiday, with the service line still having to work for every stupid holiday sale, but all the white collar people get the day off to vote. Nope. Never.

Nope.
Working Sundays and Holidays, I believe we need early voting rather than give excuses to go out of town and party rather than go vote. Voting is a serious responsibility. Moving Election Days to Sundays might help and does make sense though.

Sadly there are still people who get stuck working on a holiday. Some of those people end up working longer hours because it’s a holiday. Holidays in my job are 12 hours vs 8 on a non-holiday. Having it be a holiday doesn’t benefit lower income people (voting wise), other than holiday pay.

One day Is a joke. It should be 2 weeks, mail-in ballots, ballot boxes in every government building, and you are guaranteed at least one entire day off during that two week period. People still work during holidays, and for some people, a few hours off does not begin to cover the time needed.

Better idea, digitize voting, no more lineups, no mail voting… just open up your app and vote.
Simple.
I bet you republicans will never agree to this idea as they stand to be wiped out.

Heard a pretty strong argument on why we shouldn’t. Those who need time off work are unlikely to be able to on a holiday (transportation, food service, caregivers, etc). We should instead make voting more accessible by expanding access - mail in, automatic registration, ballot boxes, etc.
