I always took my kids to the polls with me. I showed them how it all worked. Later, when each son voted for the first time, we went out to breakfast to celebrate. When they were in college, I got them absentee ballots. Kids need to know voting is not optional.

Years ago they would give the kids a kid ballot with names like Mickey Mouse and others. Do they still do this? They thought this was great. Made them look forward to the time when they could vote for real.

That’s a cool idea, but no. They never did that. Honestly I don’t remember my parents doing or saying much about voting. I just knew it was my responsibility. I just chose to drive it home with my kids.

BTW it was the Board of Elections that did this back in the 80’s. My child loved it.
