My daughter is going to school to be a teacher. She was offered a job teaching in a Tennessee school with just her Associate degree. She turned it down for multiple reasons, but mostly because she wanted to complete her education. I am thankful every day that she didn't move there.

I don't blame her. Tennessee treats their teachers like shit and their pay is just awful.

Somehow I wound up with two relatives living in Tennessee. I worry enough about them, I didn't want my daughter there, but luckily she didn't even seriously consider the offer. She said she didn't want to work for a school that would allow her to teach without her finishing her degree.

Tennessee REALLY doesn't want experienced teachers from outside the state, especially ones that already have their degrees and teaching certificates.

They want TFA teachers to backfill all the openings and then hope they leave when their tour is up. Rinse and repeat.

I can't imagine having a child in those schools. Such a shame.
