One of the arguments against universal healthcare is the long wait time to see a doctor. I'm a fully insured American and was just told that I can't get an appointment with an allergist for 3+ months despite the acute reaction I'm having that requires two inhalers.

I'm a woman with a deep family history of breast cancer and I had to wait 5+ months for screening. I also had to fight to have an ultrasound in addition to the mammogram despite it being medically indicated for many reasons. Explain to me how for profit healthcare is superior.

Okay, but if I'm waiting for ages to see a doctor in the third largest city in the USA, having necessary tests delayed or denied, AND paying for the "privilege" with my insurance premiums, copays and out of pocket expenses, how on earth can anyone argue that for-profit healthcare is superior?

They def can't. I'm just saying, don't expect the mismanagement to improve with the switch to single-payer, unless it's underpinned by a program of educating and managing doctors to ensure sufficient supply is in place.

I'm not naive enough to think universal healthcare will be perfect. But if I'm going to deal with mismanagement no matter what, I'd rather not be paying exorbitant insurance premiums, copays and out of pocket expenses on top of that.
