You all wanna know the most devastaing thing to have listened to if you were a kid/teen in 1980...it was the death of John Lennon...an that was announced on Monday Night Football, by Howard Cossell.

I was in HS. Missed MNF, heard about Lennon 1st thing next day.

Friend who I played guitar with some was doing a church coffeehouse thing sometime later. He did ‘Imagine’ & his voice broke, because of course it did.

Then at Christmas, same friend’s father killed his mother, then himself.

I hope your friend was able to find peace after all of that. That just is a traumatic experience to go through.

Vividly remember that my mom forced me to go to bed midway in the fourth quarter (was 9 at the time). I recall waking up the next day and learning of his murder.

YouTube has an amazing treasure trove of the actual news broadcasts of that tragic night that altered the world.

Yes, it felt like a gut punch when you woke up. I can imagine the same for a kid in the UK who heard the news likely that afternoon local time.

Pretty devastating for those of us in our 20s and 30s as well.

Yeah John Lennon was just so loved. His death is the reason why Sir Elton John will not perform Lucy in the Sky with diamonds.

I picked up a newspaper the next morning and just stood there frozen.

This was before my time, a lot of people worldwide actually were devastated by the news, most of all the people in the UK.
