This is part of a set of dishes from my great grandmother. I’m not sure of their history other than that. I’m not sure if she brought them to the US when she immigrated or ? Only 1 complete place setting is left.

Day 7 of #SaltysScavengerHunt : an item of local, regional civic pride. I present a sweatshirt from Laguna Beach, CA. A favorite spot for an oceanside lunch.

Grey, distressed look sweatshirt with a stylized sailboat with sails billowing embroidered in white on the front. There is a crescent moon to the left of the boat & a stylized ocean surface embroidered in tan under the boat. The words Laguna Beach embroidered in white underneath all.

Day 8 of #SaltysScavengerHunt : a printed map. Dear Pete thought they would be hard 2 come by since everyone replies on electronic devices 4 direction these days. But,sometimes electronics fail you. I’ve not only kept my maps, but have added 2 them! They’ve come in v handy when camping far from cov.

A selection of printed maps spread out. There are 2 state atlases covering roads & recreation areas, one for Arizona & one for California. There are also 3 folded AAA state maps for: Colorado/Wyoming, Iowa/Nebraska & Oregon/Washington. There are 4 trail maps. The one for Yosemite is open & laying on the 2 state atlases & the #SaltysScavengerHunt handwritten sign. The 3 AAA folded state maps are on the Yosemite map to the left side. The other 3 folded trail maps are on the right side of the open Yosemite trail map. The other 3 trail maps are: Grand Canyon North & South Rims, Mammoth High Country & Zion National Park.

Day 9: #SaltysScavengerHunt - Local/regional store brand
So, I didn’t think Sees Candy shop would qual, but they’re sooo good. I wasn’t sure if Trader Joes would qualify since they’re in 42 states now. I started going 2 them when there were only a handful of stores in So Cal. See alt text for rest.

And then I remembered Gonzalez Northgate Markets. They cater to our hispanic population. I found lots of brands I’d never heard of, but they weren’t local to that store. But, they do make their own tortillas on site. So, I bought some & they are very good! Photo is of a one pound box of Sees chocolates and a small box of their dark chocolate covered peanut brittle, a box of Trader Joe’s Meyer Lemon Cookie Thins, a package of Gonzalez tostada shells & a package of their flour tortillas. Hopefully, something will qualify for the challenge! :)

Day 11: #SaltysScavengerHunt : most favoritest drinking vessel

This glass H2O btl goes ev where. Driving 2 the farmers mkt,grocery store,docs office, camping/hiking, etc. I’m weird in lots of ways,but esp when it comes 2 drinking vessels.Plastic/metal or those camelbacks hv an offputting taste 4me.

Glass water bottle with silicone wrap that protects the glass & makes it easy to grip. The silicone has hexagonal openings as the pattern exposing the glass. Blue top with a built in spout & attached cover with a handle. There is condensation forming on the glass from the water I just put in it from the fridge.

Day 12: #SaltysScavengerHunt - a non-consumable object I made

I make/do a lot of things, cross-stitch, crochet, knit, draw, paint, but this was one of the easiest to grab. I’m making these sets to donate. More detail in Alt Text.

Red knit fingerless gloves & hat. The gloves have a 3/3 cable & the hat has multiple alternating & overlapping twists also made in a 3/3 pattern.

Day 13: #SaltysScavengerHunt - a chip

Yay! I took a last min trip out of the light pollution to see the Persieds & was treated to a thunderstorm instead. Forecast was clear skies, go figure! But, fortunately, I was still able to participate today. Here’s a lil sumthin for @Myles_Away .

Last minute impulse purchase for the trip. Lays Dill Pickle Chips. Photo has a small black goose-necked kettle to the left, a package of the chips to the right & a chip on a paper with the requisite #SaltysScavengerHunt handwritten on it. Truth be told, while I don’t hate the chips, I most likely would not buy them again, but . . . don’t tell Myles! sssshhhhh!

Day 14: #SaltysScavengerHunt - an object being used for other than its intended purpose.

I am so happy to be able to participate another day while out camping in the RV.

A baby wipes container being used to hold various 9v DC USB charging cords & assorted cords to charge various devices while driving. Fits perfectly in the little storage bin under the dash & drink holders. There is a space in the lid that would normally hold a tissue at ready, but keep the rest moist. I use it to store an extra fuse for one of the 9v chargers.

Anyone up for a rousing game of Othello?

The board is on a picnic table with a white camper van behind it & a part of the southern Sierras in the background. The are very large puffy white clouds in the sky. All that remains of a light rain that just passed through.

I haven’t had these skates on in decades. And, strangely enough, there was only 1 wristguard in the box. What in the world did I do with the other one? ? ? 🫢🤔

A pair of black in-line skates with turquoise bindings & wheels. They have purple shoestrings. They are old, dirty & scuffed. The requisite handwritten #SaltysScavengerHunt note is at the back.

Day 19: #SaltysScavengerHunt - a cassette tape

Most of mine didn’t make the purge. But, for some reason, I did keep some. Among them, I kept these tapes from a music appreciation class. The Norton Recordings, Seventh Ed, Shorter Version

Three cassette tapes set on the requisite note reading: #SaltysScavengerHunt. Two are still in their cases & the third is set on top towards the lower right of the picture. You can see some of the songs they contain on the inserts. Ex: Beethoven, Piano Sonata in C minor (Pathétique), Op. 13, Second Movement. Some of the other composers are: Mozart, Schubert, Schumann, Berlioz, Brahms, Wagner, Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, Haydn, Verdi, DeBussy, Stravinsky, Copland, Bernstein and many others.

I present my Spanish books. I’ll never understand why I’m not fluent by now. 😉🤣I’ve had these books for years & they are sometimes right on the nightstand. I suppose they expect me to actually read them & practice.

Todays presentation is three ceramic figurines. More detail in Alt text.

A Goebel’s figurine - Home From Market - a blond boy in brown shorts, a white shirt & orange bowtie & blue jacket. He is wearing a blue hat & carrying a folded blue umbrella under his left arm, his right hand is in his shorts pocket. He is also carrying a pig in a basket on his back that does not show in the photo. There are also 2 figurines of a man & woman dressed in 18th century clothes. Day 24: #SaltysScavengerHunt - refrigerator magnet - “bonus pts for oldest, weirdest or hyper-localest”

Here are a few of my magnets. See Alt Text for more detail.

A collection of 8 magnets. Top row from left to right: A tourist magnet - a picture of one of the famous buildings in downtown Carmel, CA. At the time I was there, it was a tea room. It looks like a European thatched roof cottage. Next is a magnet that says: Stress is when you wake up screaming … then you realize you haven’t fallen asleep yet. The last in the row is a sitting white ceramic cat with a blue neck tie & face details. Second row is 2 fluffy white sheep with black faces & legs & pink bowties in their hair all made from FIMO (no, I didn’t make them ;). In between them is a feathered Mardi Gras face with mask all in reds & golds. The last row at the bottom is 2 blue butterflies holding up the requisite handwritten #SaltysScavengerHunt note that is partially obscured by the feathers from the Mardi Gras mask.

Day 25: #SaltysScavengerHunt - proof of transportation

Gather ‘round, young whipper-snappers. I’m going to tell you a story you won’t believe! Back in the olden days, you used to get paper tickets mailed (snail mail) 2U when you made airline reservations. And, they served free hot meals in flight!

You used to get paper tickets mailed to you via snail mail for your flights. I present 8 airline ticket envelopes from various carriers (with paper tickets inside but not seen), Continental, United, PSA & TWA dated between Mar 8, 76 to Jan 11, 92. Each has a ticket inside, but there is one ticket out & laying across the envelopes. It is a United ticket for a round trip flight on 4-20-78 to Des Moines, with a return to LA on 4-23-78. On these flights you generally were given a choice of 1 of 2 or 3 hot meals that weren’t bad, usually. Plus free snacks & drinks. People dressed up a little for their flights & were actually pleasant & civil to each other. I don’t recall any screaming (other than babies), no fist fights, etc. The requisite handwritten #SaltysScavengerHunt note is sticking out from under the top row of ticket envelopes.

Day 26: #SaltysScavengerHunt - a bookmark or library card

I present a bookmark. I tend to use a simple post-it note most of the time. It is easy to stick to the page I leave off of. The photo, of course, does not do it justice. It is a 3D holographic image of 3 snowy owls. See Alt Text.

A red knit cap with multiple criss-crossing cable stitches & a ribbed bottom & a small black fascinator type of witch’s hat: a pointy black hat adorned with long black feathers and a large black ribbon rose. The hat is on a black headband. By the way, I’ve heard witch hunts are all the rage right now! 😉
