That's true!
Here we voted to stop editing after a bit so those posting wouldn't alter content completely after getting many likes + echo. So can correct mistakes but not change it entirely after some time.

Yes, there are advantages to both ways! On Mastodon, when someone edits a post, anyone who boosted or favorited it gets a notification, so they can remove it if they want. Or it can also help when someone shares info that they later find out was not accurate. They can correct it and notify people.
