Was having a good night streaming Minecraft with the wife then we got follow botted near the end of the stream.

I'm reminded of the terrible parts of streaming and now it's negatively affecting my view of it and my mental health.

There is no room for growth on twitch for new streamers or anyone with lower view counts.

Nobody gives a shit about the little guys and anytime I've made any headway or gotten traction in growing my channels, I'm shit upon.

Fine. If things don't improve, I'm done.

Fuck this.

It's a malicious attack on a person's channel that spams their channel with follows, offensive chat messages, or other forms of negative engagement in order to skew someone's analytics and channel standing into negative territory.

In extreme cases it can get the streamer permanently banned.

So is it abuse of automated moderation or, like Reddit, abuse of idiot human moderators who are no better than malformed regexes?

A little of both. They're abusing a flaw in twitch's API that allows them to create a throw away account, follow a channel with the account, then delete the account several times per second. A teenager with mild coding skills can put a bot together in 20 minutes to do it.

That spike in new followers without a matching viewership number is a red flag to Twitch global mods that can get my account put under review.
