If a first-degree relative of yours has colon cancer, you should start screening for it 10 years earlier. E.g., if they get diagnosed at 50, you start screening at 40.

Colon cancer is curable if found in the very early stages. Once it starts to spread…Hmmmm!

WHAT YOU DON’T KNOW IS DANGEROUS!

How is 1st degree defined? My dad's sister died of colon cancer. I'm getting my 1st colonoscopy soon at 48 because prior to this year my insurance wouldn't cover it.

First-degree relatives include an individual's parents, siblings and offspring. Generally, they are people in your family with whom you share the most DNA.
