As lots have said (but some aren't getting): when you make fun of Graham cuz (you think) he's gay or you call him a woman, you're denigrating LGBTQ+ folks & women. You're presenting being gay, trans, or a woman pejoratively–as our culture has done forever. IOW, you're acting as a tool of bigotry.

There are a lot of things you can mock Lindsey Graham for, but his sexuality isn't one of them. Do better.

That's right but let's stop using the word "denigrate" since it implies that "blackness" is bad. Its meaning "to demean/degrade" comes out of the transatlantic slave trade and the enslavement of Black people. Until then it meant "to blacken/make something black," occasionally "to sully/make dirty."

Thanks for reminding me of this – this is the 2nd time I was told this and I forgot. Will try not to use that anymore.

Denigrate does mean to darken but I don't think it relates to a person's color. The etymology of the word puts it back to 1500. The concept of darkening as a negative is common in most cultures independent of skin color.

Thanks for the post. It’s not really that hard to not behave in this way, right?!
