From Bunk the Biologist:
From my 2023 survey of those with #LongCovid ,  1/3rd had a gap between their initial Covid infection and the start of their long-haul symptoms.

Of those with a delay before developing #LongCovid symptoms, 2/3rds reported moderate or strenuous exercise in the week before first developing symptoms. Note, I put walks or hikes longer than 2 hours in the moderate exercise category.

My theory is that the oxidative stress of exercise may stimulate a burst of viral replication.   After all, SARS-CoV-2 is a whacky bat virus and bats are either in a hibernation-like state or exercising like mad ... flying to catch bugs.

How long should athletes and weekend warriors rest before resuming moderate or strenuous exercise?

Longer than you think.

Based on my preliminary data (n=11), consider resting for 4 to 6 months.
