Thank you for you thread. I think that any white people who claim that President Obama lost them for saying that if he had a son he’d look like Trayvon were never with Obama to begin with. Conditional allyship is the same as not being an ally at all.

I read an article saying that the moment Barack Obama said that if he had a son, he'd look like Trayvon Martin, that's when he lost this one white lady. She saw it as him bringing race into it.

Before he said that, she could live comfortably. He made her uncomfortable by pointing out he is Black.

Saying “I don’t see race” is basically saying “I don’t want to admit racism exist because then I’d have to admit I benefit from its existence. I don’t want it to end because my privilege ends with it.”
