If this trend continues of swing states getting bluer and the South and New York State getting redder relative to the national average, Democrats could enjoy the same Electoral College buffer that could protect them from a fluke narrow popular vote loss in the future.

/3 caveats:

1. By the South I'm talking all of the Southern states except North Carolina Georgia and Texas.
2. NYS trending Republican is very plausible especially since NYC's population is shrinking relative to the state quickly enough to have an impact.

3. Red states will gerrymand/voter suppress/ cheat as much as the supreme court lets them. And we know the makeup of the SC

4. That is why, governorships of the swing states is crucial, and Ds must GOTV to overcome these laws
