Brazil is a bubble and that saddens me a lot. A continent away from our neighbors physically even here in the South as the map shows and only the pinnacle of maintream music and movie industries from US have SOME cultural reach here.

Books from Portugal? Too expensive due to Euro and lack of interest from investors from there, which makes no sense to me, imaging like Penguin not having an office in the US.

Any exception is direct fruit from immigration, which means in a sense that that is less about being open to other cultures per se but more about accepting Brazilian own diversity. The reach here of Japanese anime, Korean music, Italian cuisine are examples of this.
