LANGUAGE: It’s enslaved persons, not “slaves”. We are people who were ENslaved. When you say “enslaved”, you make clear that someone else did this to us. When you say “slave” you speak the language and mindset of the people who did this to us. This is important. It is not semantics. #Spoutible

This is a really great point. I was arguing with someone about the fact that George Washington did not free the enslaved people he 'owned', and I referred to them as 'his slaves'. I realized it did an injustice to those people to refer to them as his slaves, and I will do better in the future.
