As an "old," I learned touch typing on an IBM Selectric and after 2 years of typing class, I averaged about 160 wpm.

Modern keyboards are a fricking dream to use, so 30-mumble years later, I'm still fast and accurate as hell.

I learned on the same typewriter, but I only took 1 semester in HS. Got to about 90 then. Now, on a good day, I can get up to 120-30.

I didn't intend to take Typing II, but all the other good electives filled before I could sign up. It did work out as I ended up getting a part-time typing job at IBM in my senior year, for which I was paid AND got credit toward graduation.
