So excited right now. Many kids understand addition when the addends are shown first in an equation and the sum is last. However, when you reverse the equation it really throws them off. (10=8+2) I just found an online scale with numbers up to 10 to demonstrate this! #teacher #math

I'm older GenX and we used to practice with
10 = 10+0
10 = 9+1
10 = 8+2
10 = 7+3
10 = 6+4
10 = 5+5
10 = 4+6
10 = 3+7
10 = 2+8
10 = 1+9
10 = 0+10

We did this a lot with columns like above & other visual tools so we could internalize the backwards/forwards nature. Helped with subtraction, too.
