Which U.S. state is winning at generating the majority of its electricity from renewables?

The answer surprised me. It will surprise you, too!

Have a guess, and I'll post the answer and an interactive map in the replies.

The winner is... South Dakota!
83% renewable!
54% wind + 29% hydro
SD more than tripled wind generation in just 2 years. Impressive!

See an interactive version of the map below, with stats for all 50 states. https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2023/02/us-state-with-most-renewable-energy-produc

My guess is Texas (seem to have read it somewhere, where I don't remember!). If I get a second guess, it would be Arizona... (since it's Friday, we can waffle...).

Texas is an excellent guess!
Texas generates the largest amount of renewable energy, but at the same time, they burn a whole lotta gas and coal, which together account for 64% of their electricity.
So it's not Texas.

I'm thinking my state is pretty good. I'm going with Delaware.

Delaware generates 2% of it's electricity from renewables. They may import renewables from other states, though.

Delaware has access to offshore wind, so they have a solid way to improve.
