York - walk along the Roman walls of Eboracum where Constantine was crowned Roman emperor & the streets of Erik Bloodaxe's Jórvík, the Viking's Northern stronghold. York Minster, arguably the best building in the UK, was finished in 1462, a perpendicular gothic masterpiece.

Whitby - the best place to gobble fish and chips, this coastal fishing town is world famous as the setting for the arrival of Bram Stoker's Dracula into England, thus every year goths descend on the town and head to the spooky remains of windswept Whitby Abbey to try and spot some vampires. 🧛🏻‍♂️

Wakefield - known as the Merrie City since the Middle Ages for its liveliness. Wakefield Cathedral is the main sight along with the pictured St John's Church, 20 seconds from my house! Wakey is infamous for its maximum security prison, where serial killer Harold Shipman, killed himself.

Selby - my hometown! Selby Abbey was the birthplace of King Henry I of England, where his mother Empress Matilda was in hiding. There is a stained glass window in the abbey called the Washington Window, which is the basis of the American flag, linked to the family of George Washington. 🇺🇲

Scarborough - or Scar-bados as is its residents call it due to its zero similarity with Barbados, except for some sand. The town is Yorkshire main seaside resort with two beaches and all the typical array of funfairs, chippies and poverty that most coastal towns face in England. 🏖️

Leeds - the biggest city in Yorkshire of nearly a million people, Leeds is the biggest city in Western Europe without a mass transit system, a sad indictment of central govt underinvestment in the North. Leeds is a financial and tech powerhouse & contains numerous professional sports teams.

Huddersfield - a large town between Leeds and Manchester, Huddersfield is nestled at the base of the Pennine hills and even windier than Chicago! 💨

The George Hotel was the site of rugby's great schism in 1895 where clubs set up their own professional code of the sport, Rugby League. 🏉
