The hard part for me is when they say they love you but pretty much always make you feel shitty about yourself. It took me into my 40s to figure out that it doesn't matter what they say, it matters how I feel around them.

They spend 13 years of our life (in US) teaching us to think with our heads and COMPLETELY ignore true innate knowledge. Your intuition. That feeling you get when something is wrong but you don't know what. Then you fight that feeling with what? Your head/thoughts and ignore innate feelings.

I think school was definitely a part of it but it was more my parents and elders in the family. Through generational trauma, they learn to gaslight themselves and pass it down. "This trauma is normal, this abuse is normal, we are not victims because it's all normal."

My next point! Nailed it. "That's what my Mom did get over it." "If I ever said that my Dad would've back handed me out of the chair."

Um then grandpa was abusive AF. You can teach appropriate social skills without the trauma of picking your own weapon to get spanked with. (Switch selection)
