Stupid question here, but why is “party” gerrymandering permitted? Why should a legislature be allowed to create districts that guarantee their party power forever, even if they don’t use race as the basis?

Wasn’t there a specific ruling at some point that said political gerrymandering is ok but racial isn’t? Sorry. Guess that’s why Google exists. I’m just being lazy. Lol.
