Why TF are pundits asking Rep. Hakeem Jeffries what democrats are doing to stop REPUBLICAN infighting and chaos? What, they want him to hose them down or something?

This new batch of dem's at least calls them out. It's not the Democrats job to fix the republicans. It's because they are broken and can't govern.

All true, but someone needs to do something, this country needs and deserves a functioning government. It’s okay to let them implode from a political standpoint, but people are going to suffer, and that’s a problem.

What makes you think we'll have a functioning government if a few Dems cross over & help elect an R whose stated purpose is to shut down the govt?

That’s where the deal making matters. First, not *all* R’s want a shutdown. Democrats would be asking for rules changes (written and enforceable), likely power sharing within committees, and avoiding the shutdown. That’s what the chatter was before anyway.

And what do you expect the minority leader of the opposing party to do about the majority party’s inability to work together long enough to even elect their own leader? There can’t even be an act or policy presented to address this problem until a speaker is chosen. By the majority party.

By a majority vote of the house, actually. Which is why it’s being discussed. At some point, we need a speaker. If they can’t get there, then it’s going to come to “what’s the price of a consensus vote?” Which would put the Leader in the drivers seat.
