I disagree only in one respect with this analysis: the implicit assumption that Putin hasn't screwed up so bad to the point of FUBAR. Kamil Galeev has noted that the Russian Federation is held together by mythos, which Ukraine is shredding. That may lead to "National Divorce" (MTG stole that).

I think it’s really easy to underestimate how strong the ‘mythos’ holds in Russia. Although personally I think Putin won’t be there when the invasion ends- I don’t think that will fundamentally alter the oligarchy control - but I hope I’m wrong about that- their could be an opportunity for change.

Galeev said much the same while also pointing out that the Ukraine invasion put the mythos in danger. See, the core tenet of said mythos is that "you cannot survive or thrive without Mother Russia." They lose badly enough, EVERYONE will know that's a lie.
