Over here it was the Sainsbury supermarket chain that led the renaming in English of this dish from "Chicken Kiev" to "Chicken Kyiv." This probably ok considering that the recipe most people recognise as the modern version of the dish was the specialty of the Continental Hotel in Kyiv from 1897.

In Polish restaurants they will call it "Devolay," which the phonetic adaptation of de volaille into Polish.

Mind you the Požarski cutlet is older and definitely related, and would probably have to be traced to Russia. But it ain't the same thing. http://www.tasterussia.ru/...
