If a church can pay $20M for a Super Bowl ad, they can pay taxes.

Here's the problem: "tax the churches" pictures the megachurches, but taxing churches would force many of the smaller congregations to close. They would become the collateral damage of targeting the megachurches.

Some denominations are not set up to "police their own." Power lies at the congregational level, allowing each congregation to be an entity unto itself, and the denomination is just a loose agreement to be together. Many megachurches fall into this category, or they are completely independent.

Valid point. I think it’s the mega churches that everyone wants to see taxed, with smaller churches exempted.

There is something terribly wrong when Joel Olsteen can gift his wife a $200k Lamborghini, and when the Mormon church can hide $32 Billion, with a capital B, in investment funds.

I have major problems with Joel Osteen and others who proclaim the "Prosperity Gospel" (meaning "God wants you to be rich"). All too often, such leaders call for offerings as demonstrations of faith, promising that the Lord will return a financial blessing that almost never comes.
