CRAZY THOUGHT:

Why do social media platforms have to be open?

Why can't a social media platform be private?
Fill out an application and see.

Why do we have to accept those with hateful ideals that are contrary to who we are?

Perhaps the bubble talk is all BS? Maybe it’s not a bad idea.

I think because anytime you gate off a platform the people who end up being kept out are the ones who most need to have their voices heard. It just becomes a country club that further marginalizes the marginalized. Open access with active moderation seems to be a much better choice.

We won’t know because no one has ever tried it. I don’t see it as a negative because it would not be cutting off a group, it would be cutting off people who, on an application, express concerning sentiments. Food for thought tho.

We haven't seen it as a social media platform but we have seen it in real world environments since ever. Every gated community that restricts entry ends up being a division of class used to keep out less desirables, ie. everyone that threatens the status quo.

I don’t think that applies to all private groups but I hear you.
