There is something that people need to understand. The next Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2025, The 2024 election is certified on January 6, 2024 so if Democrats take back the House, Speaker Hakeem Jeffries, not Mike Johnson will certify the next election.

Democrats have gotten back several African-American majority House districts that the GOP gerrymandered out in 2022. Democrats are likely to retake the House next year. In fact including the Santos seat in New York, they already have enough seats to win before a single vote is cast in 2024.

Sorry, the years are:

New Congress: 1/3/2025

Election Certification: 1//6/2025

If Democrats take back the House, they will certify the election.

With enough of a blue wave, voting out GQPers, we can hope the legal challenges to election results will be done with by 3 January.

That is very true but we have to live through almost a year and a half of utter chaos and nothing gets done.

It has been my understanding that the Vice President oversees the certification. Am I mistaken?

They would have to change the Constitution. Those are constitutionally mandated dates.
