Just stop it already. Biden's president. The Senate is Blue. No abortion ban bills at the national level will be made law under the current situation.

If you'd like to see that continue, vote for Democrats and see to it that more liberal folks register to vote in swing states and districts.

If the new "speaker" gets his way there will be no new Dems in Congress or a 2nd Biden term. Johnson simply won't let a Biden win be certified.

Indeed. But IIRC the new House gets sworn in shortly before the certification of Presidential election results, so this problem can be mitigated by winning back the House in 2024.

Let's just say the Dems win the House back in '24. As his last act as speaker could Johnson refuse to swear in those Dems? He could. Then what do we do?

Obviously, that would go to SCOTUS. How they'd rule probably depends on if its close enough that Republicans can give a coup a thin veneer of legal legitimacy. So it can't be close.

If SCOTUS overturns the Constitution, I'd argue Biden should refuse to step down. But that likely means civil war.

My view is that we should refuse to recognize any victory by Trump. I base this not on conspiracy theories about the vote, but the fact that Trump is ineligible as an insurrectionist. How many votes he gets doesn't matter- he cannot legally be PotUS, no more than if he were a minor or non-citizen.

I'll add to this that while it may be politically damaging, I believe that the consistent thing would be for Biden to refuse to debate Trump, if he is the nominee. Debating him acknowledges him as a legitimate candidate. Which, in my view, he legally is not.

Of course Trump may also refuse.
