Modest 1000 sq ft homes in my neighborhood have tripled in value in less than seven years since I purchased in the summer of 2016. There is no such thing as an affordable home in my city of 300,000 for someone with my income. Homeownership is the dividing line between wealth & poverty where I live.

It's the same here in Ontario, Canada. And renting is so expensive! Not sure how people will survive.

We can thank Ronald Reagan for that (trickle down economics and tax breaks for the very wealthy). Eisenhower was the last decent Republican (taxed the very rich, working class people were able to by homes.)

People are literally scrabbling for houses here, and definitely overpaying.

We bought our current home in 2018. It increased in value (based on what's happening in the housing market) by well over 100k in 4 years. FOUR. 😮

That's just crazy, and it has nothing to do with actual value.
