In 8th grade, I had a basketball coach from Texas. Practices were brutal. We "relaxed" by doing wall sits. We had to sprint to get water. We made it to the league semi-finals.

But that season did everlasting damage. All but 3 of us stopped playing by senior year.

I won't cry for Bob Knight.

I agree 100%! Somehow the American competitive desire to win made abuse a legitimate approach. It’s pervasive in all sports at all levels. It’s the worst kept secret around. My child played D1 college BB. Several teammates were taking antidepressants & in rehab/ PT all season due to abuse.
