Someone trying to photograph El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in California, got this marvelous picture of the Andromeda galaxy.

I wondered if it was a prolonged extended exposure. The light sources would get brighter while the foreground would remain static, and because the background was all sky it would enhance it alot. Dont know the source on this. Just enjoyed it and wanted to share.

Yes, I understand, because it looks spectacular.
But... a picture which features the Andromeda galaxy in a size like that in the sky would require a very long focal lenght (i.e. tele lens). By employing this length you would just see sky, no foreground. Thus two pics must have been merged into one

Thanks! We honeymooned there and its a special place for us, along with millions of other folks I am sure.

This is my pic from Mono Lake on the first day of our honeymoon. Tioga Pass had a ton in melting snow and it formed cloud columns and then the cold air made a Heart for us!
