It's astounding to think how well we'd be doing if vaccination/public health protections were equal across counties. Here in DC, we're heavily vaccinated (>80% initial, >30% bivalent), our case rate's at its lowest since the Omicron wave ended, and our resident hospitalization rate averages to 0.

I'm sorry that your sources won't be available and you won't be able to do these anymore, Charles. One would think they'd keep going, especially since the pandemic isn't over. Thank you for the work you do -- and have been doing for years.

Over the holidays, it looked like the COVID death rate--which has been higher in the reddest fifth of the U.S. than the bluest fifth continuously since July 2020--would finally converge. However, that didn't prove to be the case.

Instead, the COVID death rate in January increased faster in the reddest quintile than the bluest...and in February, it *dropped* faster in the bluest quintile than the reddest, running 63% higher in the most GOP-leaning fifth of the country last month:
