To any white person who reads this and asks a Black person “what can we do?”, I believe it is imperative you challenge white people in your community, in your own families, your white friends who say racist things, anti-Black racist things. You have to be willing to lose friends over this. Are you?

My parents used racist terms most of my childhood. It was how they were raised. I broke from that tradition as soon as I left home. My husband and children and grandchildren have never been allowed to use racist language and never will. You have to be the change.
