To be clear: it’s a record for the amount of a single settlement for a single “combined claim.” On avg, NYC *taxpayers* pay $200 million+ /year to settle police misconduct & excessive use of force lawsuits. We pay for their abuse. And then the mayor takes money from schools to give more to cops.

Bad policing should be paid out of their retirement fund. So every officer feels it personally. Maybe that will lift the prohibition of turning in bad cops.

Lol. “Should”—could equally mean “will never.” I mean, it’s not like no one’s ever thought of this before, or suggested it, or passionately advocated for it. Police unions are like the mafia. Until we face the fact that policing in America is a deeply corrupt institution, we will never “reform” it.
