I left our new house in Junction City, KS just as the CBS News Bulletin slide appeared on the screen. Had to get back to school after lunch. Didn't know President Kennedy had been killed until I got back to Westwood Elementary.

There was no cable tv back then, so the strongest TV signal came from CBS affiliate WIBW in Topeka, 60 miles away.

Walter Cronkite was already the most trusted newscaster in the Porter house. We couldn't turn away from the coverage.

I thought I'd grow up to be a scientist. Looking back, the Kennedy assassination coverage is the reason I ended up chasing news.
