My then-husband and I test drove a Yugo once. OMG no. We went three blocks and the passenger front tire fell off. Literally the entire wheel separated from the axle.

We ended up buying a Renault Alliance and counted ourselves fortunate.

Ancient Joke: why did the Yugo have a rear window defroster?

I was stationed at Keflavik, Iceland and arrived in the middle of winter. Only one vehicle was available for purchase at the time - a Czech-made Škoda, which came with a full-on Model T era handcrank for "bad weather." Gimme that Yugo anyday! :)

I wound up having a love/hate relationship with that car. Apparently you can't ship them to the US because the glass in the windscreen and windows weren't up to US DOT standards.
