This is the emerging harsh reality about hydrogen as a transportation fuel.

With current technologies, hydrogen production techniques, etc, battery electric vehicles are about 2.5x more energy efficient than hydrogen. It just takes so much energy to crack water and that can't be improved much.

It's easier if you look at hydrogen as an energy transmission system (like electricity).
What is the cost of production?
What is the cost of a distribution system (like a grid)?
What is the cost of tooling up the vehicles?
When you look at it that way, it doesn't make much sense.
